How TM5-700 compares within +/- 5 kg payload.

Smallest Techman. 6 kg / 700 mm with built-in vision. Direct comp is UR5e — Techman's structural moat is the integrated 5MP camera that replaces a $5-15K vision add-on every other cobot needs.

02 / THE STRUCTURAL ARGUMENT

Why this cobot costs what it costs.

Every Techman cobot ships with a 5MP camera integrated into the arm body — not as an option, as standard. For applications where vision matters (pick-and-place from variable positions, quality inspection, part presence verification), this is a $5-15K saving versus equivalent UR or FANUC cells that need bolt-on Cognex or Keyence vision. At $23-28K, the TM5-700 is the cheapest production-class cobot in the cohort, and the all-in installed cost for a vision-equipped cell is typically $40-55K — substantially under a UR5e + Cognex In-Sight equivalent at $55-75K. The trade is application fit: Techman's TMvision software is competent but doesn't match Cognex In-Sight or Keyence's depth on hard machine-vision problems (low-contrast inspection, sub-pixel precision). For straightforward vision-guided pick-and-place and presence verification, TMvision works. For complex inspection problems, you'd still add a separate vision system, in which case the Techman vision moat collapses. Quanta Storage (Techman's parent) is an Omron joint-venture for global distribution, so North American support has improved meaningfully since 2023.

03 / WHAT YOU'LL ADD ON TOP

Vendor-specific Bill of Materials.

These line items are what Techman Robot cells specifically need, beyond the bare arm. Multiply the arm price by 2.5-4x to land at typical installed cost — these items account for most of that multiplier.

04 / WHO BUYS THIS

Target buyer profile.

Vision-dependent applications where built-in 5MP camera covers the requirement. SMB manufacturers automating pick-and-place from variable positions. Worst fit: hard machine-vision inspection (defects below resolution, sub-pixel precision).

HONESTY NOTE

Standard Bots quotes around 25K USD. Built-in vision is the key value vs other vendors charging 5-15K USD for add-on vision.
